Profiles In Terpage - A Countdown to the Football Season: Keith Bowers

A recurring series where we will profile every player on Maryland's roster, counting down to kick-off against William & Mary on September 1. Thanks to OBNUG for the idea.

Today we profile a player who was a surprise starter last season.

Keith Bowers, Sophomore, Defensive End, #91

via grfx.cstv.com

Stats:

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 260

Major: Communications

Twitter: @WiseWords561

Collegiate Stats: 36 tackles (22 assisted), six for a loss, two and a half sacks, one fumble recovered

High School Stats (Senior Year): 74 tackles and 15 sacks

Recruiting Ratings: Three stars by Rivals, Scout (#152 DE), two stars by 24-7 (#295 in Florida, #42 DT)

High School: Dwyer

Hometown: West Palm Beach, Fla.

High School Highlights:

There's a part two, but I trust that ten minutes is more than enough.

How'd He Get to College Park?

Keith Bowers comes from loaded Dwyer High School, whose 2011 class had eight players go on to FBS schools (and a host of others who went to smaller programs). He was one of their best players on defense during his senior year, and their coach told Matt Bracken of the Sun that he was probably the strongest out of a defensive line that included players going to Tennessee, Florida State, and Middle Tennessee State.

Bowers was offered by a host of MAC, Sun Belt, and Conference-USA schools, but never got the call from one of the bigger schools in Florida. Instead, his choice of FBS schools was between Maryland, Illinois, and Kansas. The Terps ended up winning that battle, thanks to a strong push from Don Brown and their relentlessness in their recruitment, even through the coaching change.

At the beginning of Dwyer?s season last year, they lost a controversial game to Cleveland-Glenville, when two clear touchdowns in the final two minutes were missed by the officials. Bowers reportedly delivered an impassioned speech after the game (his coach called it "almost like a Tebow-like speech"), telling the team that they would work harder than anybody else and not lose another game. They ended up making it to the state semifinals.

Last year, Bowers came into the program and found immediate success. When Isaiah Ross was injured against Miami, Bowers took over and started every game for the rest of the season. He was tied for fourth in tackles for a loss and sack, and as a result, was named an honorable mention freshman All-American.

Star-divide

Nickname:

Keith "Austin" Bowers

Career Highlight:

Being named an honorable mention freshman All-American after last season.

Career Lowlight:

Don Brown leaving? Bowers' career at Maryland so far has been pretty damn near perfect.

Dream Season:

Bowers holds on to his starting job, building off of last season and getting an all-conference nod.

Nightmare Season:

Bowers falls down the depth chart and is relegated to rotation play.

2012 Prospectus:

We've talked about Maryland's depth at defensive end at length in this series, and with good reason - there's six guys who could all reasonably start alongside Joe Vellano and A.J. Francis. Bowers could easily be considered the favorite because he topped the spring depth chart and started last year, but Andre Monroe had a great season last year and Isaiah Ross began last season as the starter.

Bowers will have a place in Maryland's defensive line rotation this year, and he'll almost certainly have a spot as a starter down the road. The question is whether he can retain that spot this year. My gut says no, and I think Ross will at least start the season as the starter, but it's hard for Maryland to go wrong here. Whoever wins the battle between these six guys is going to have to continue to play at a high level to keep it, and Maryland's defensive line should be as good as we've seen it in some time.

Up Next:

You guys will be able to figure out who's next, so let's go with a trivia question with the clue. You have to get both to get the points.

Our next player went to a high school that shares its name with a college that had a player drafted in yesterday's NBA Draft.

And before Keith Bowers, who was the last true freshman to start on the defensive line at Maryland? And don't Google it, cheaters.

kbuts151 got yesterday's right, and he's making a serious comeback effort here.

Standings:

Maryland1206 - 5

kbuts151 - 4

Terpsfinish - 1

ClickClack62 - 1

Mdak06 - 1

bubbasparks - 1

Everybody else - 0

Sergey Brin demos Project Glass on stage at Google IO

It's hard to ignore Google's X Lab-born Project Glass. News of the slim-lined, sci-fi goggles' existence first surfaced this past February and it wasn't long after that Mountain View's own elite began to flaunt the heads-up display in public. While little of the device's true purpose and functionality is known, we have been privy to certain features over the past few months, like photo sharing to Google+ and even its ability to overlay Maps. Though product lead Steve Lee shrugged off rumors of a late 2012 launch, it does appear the company's itching to spill a few more (jelly) beans at today's I/O conference.

To do that, Sergey Brin rushed onstage at Google I/O wearing the glass units to give us a brief live action demo courtesy of a skydive over San Francisco. Video of the jump, performed by four divers in a blimp, was streamed live through Google Hangouts to attendees at the Moscone Center. In keeping with the extreme vibe of this demonstration, the showcase was handed off to bikers on the rooftop, also outfitted with the lenses, who jumped from building to building via ramp and then eventually cycled into the arena and right up to Sergey, himself. As a finishing touch, Brin also snapped a shot of the team using his own headset. All told, it's a pretty incredible way to once again officially tease this forward-looking tech.

Check out our full coverage of Google I/O 2012's opening keynote at our event hub!

How The Taste Of Tomatoes Went Bad (And Kept On Going)

Notice how some of these tomatoes have unripe-looking tops? Those "green shoulders" are actually the keys to flavor.

The tomato is the vegetable (or fruit, if you must) that we love to hate. We know how good it can be and how bad it usually is. And everybody just wants to know: How did it get that way?

Today, scientists revealed a small but intriguing chapter in that story: a genetic mutation that seemed like a real improvement in the tomato's quality, but which actually undermined its taste.

Before we get to the mutation, though, let's start with the old tomatoes ? the varieties that people grew a century or more ago.

?

Thanks to enthusiastic seed savers and heirloom tomato enthusiasts, you can still find many of them. Eric Rice, owner of Country Pleasures Farm near Middletown, Md., first encountered heirloom tomatoes when he was a graduate student in North Carolina.

"I decided I really liked them," he says. He liked the vivid taste and the unusual colors, from orange to purple. These tomatoes also have great names: Cherokee Purple, Dr. Wyche's, Mortgage Lifter.

Rice now grows these tomatoes to sell at a farmers market in Washington, D.C. But he admits that all that tomato personality can make heirlooms harder to grow and sell. "Heirloom tomatoes don't ship very well because they're softer. And frankly, they're all different shapes and sizes." This makes them more difficult to pack.

There's something else you'll notice as these tomatoes start to get ripe ? something central to this story. The part of the tomato near the stem ? what's called the shoulder of the fruit ? stays green longer.

"I think it is an issue for the consumer," says Rice, "because people do buy with their eyes. And green shoulders also mean it's not entirely ripe or not as soft and tasty there."

Those green shoulders turn out to be more significant than you might think. In this week's issue of the journal Science, scientists report that when they disappeared from modern tomatoes, some of the tomato's taste went with them.

Here's how. Sometime before 1930, somewhere in America, a tomato grower noticed a plant that was producing distinctive fruit. These fruit turned red from stem to tip in a uniform way. They didn't have any of those bothersome green shoulders.

It was a new mutation, and plant breeders saw it as the next big thing.

They called it the "uniform ripening" trait. In 1930, the agricultural experiment station in Fargo, N.D., released a new tomato variety containing this mutation. The variety was called All Red.

Ann Powell, a researcher at the University of California, Davis, says it spread through the entire tomato industry. "It's a little hard to find a variety in modern production that doesn't have it," she says.

Powell is one of the scientists who now has discovered the genetic change responsible for "uniform ripening."

She was studying some genetically engineered tomato plants for another reason when she noticed that one of the added genes resulted in green tomatoes that were really dark green. It struck her as odd. "The leaves were not dark green. It was only the fruit that were dark green," she recalls.

Since this foreign gene had interesting effects on the ripening of fruit, Powell and her colleagues started looking for a similar gene that occurs naturally in tomatoes. They found it ? and by coincidence, so did another research team on the other side of the country, at Cornell University.

The researchers discovered that this natural tomato gene, when it works properly, produces those green shoulders on tomatoes. The darker green color comes from the chlorophyll in plant structures called chloroplasts, which is what converts sunlight into sugars for the plant. In fact, those dark green shoulders were making those old tomatoes sweeter and creating more flavor.

The uniform-ripening mutation disabled this gene.

"We find out that, oh my goodness, this is one of the factors that led to the deterioration of flavor in the commercial tomato," says Harry Klee, a professor of horticulture at the University of Florida.

Klee has been exploring the chemistry and genetics of tomato taste. He says tomato breeders made a lot of compromises like this over the years as they created tomato plants that produce more fruit and are also rugged enough to hold up under rough handling.

Now, Klee says, with some of this new science, we have a chance to undo some of those decisions. "What I tell people is, we can have 100 percent of the flavor [of heirloom varieties] with 80 percent of the agricultural performance of the modern varieties, with very little work."

Breeders can start with some of the best heirlooms, then bring in some of the disease-resistance genes that modern varieties have. They should also be able to increase yields somewhat, he says.

But consumers may have to change their expectations, Klee says. "They're going to have to go in and say, 'That one's got that little discoloration at the top; that means it must be good!"

And, the only way they're likely to show up in your local grocery store is if consumers can recognize them and are willing to pay a bit more for them.

Still, for the best flavor, you might want to grow your own.

Accountant Singapore Critical Role In Finance: Taxes | SR22 ...

The immune system stands out as the foundation composition of the human body for health. It is composed of physiological mechanisms that cleanse the body of toxins, facilitating well being. Throughout absorption, food is effectively broken down to absorb nutrients. Assimilation would be the conversion of nutrients into living tissue. Laboratory tests are reliable health procedures that provide a valid picture of the immune system. By analogy, the economy is the foundation for the business setting of any government.

Accounting services help calculate particular aspects of the economic status of a company, nation, or the world; just as health tests are the resources to calculate aspects within the human body?s immune system. These are offered by business process outsourcing (BPO) institutions, focusing on the accounting profession. Prevalent accounting services include secretarial, payroll, monetary statements, bank reconciliations, payables, along with Singapore tax services. There exists a much wider array of accounting services.

You will discover seven categories in Singapore tax services. They are a subset under accounting services, focusing on legal donations required by regulation. Income tax comes from profit beyond a particular sum. Proprietors of houses, lands, real estate property, and vehicles pay property taxes. Goods and services consumed by individuals and businesses give rise to consumptive taxes. They include licenses, tolls, as well as travel fees. These three kinds are compensated by people and businesses alike. The additional four are paid by corporations or businesses only.

Taxes are officially designed to support government operations as well as programs. Accounting is necessary to government business and finance. International standards were laid down with the goal to promote as well as observe correct practices. The standards are known as generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). Despite being the minimum requisites, going over and beyond them should be the working ethics of the best accountants within Singapore.

Merely complying with minimum requisites is not enough. You will find still a lot of legal loopholes for dishonest accountants to distort figures of the GAAP standards. Competent integrity is known as a diamond excellence of an accountant Singapore.

Mastering Student Loans For Graduate School | Bankrate.com

Don TaylorDear Dr. Don,
I'm not sure if you can answer this question. I have recently been accepted into a university for graduate studies. During my undergrad years, I didn't take out loans, etc. I have some credit (a store charge) and a checking and savings bank account. My only problem is that I don't know if that is enough to take out student loans for the cost of tuition. I've checked my credit report and it says I have good standing, but my question is: Should I just apply for a student loan to see if I qualify? I know I have options for co-signers, but I want to just see if with this credit I would be able to qualify for a loan for graduate school.

Thank you,
-- Eduardo Erudite

Dear Eduardo,
Congratulations on your acceptance into a graduate program, and for being able to get to this point without taking on any student loan debt. Put together a budget for your degree program, and get a sense of how much money you'll need to borrow.

Once you've filed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, forms and have received your aid package, you can start lining up financing for graduate school.

Start out by borrowing under the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan Program. The program's Stafford loans don't require co-signers. You can borrow up to $20,500 per year in Stafford loans for graduate school. Then, move on to Direct Grad PLUS loans. With a Grad PLUS Loan, a graduate/professional student can borrow up to the cost of attending the school minus other financial aid the student receives.

Grad PLUS loan applicants can't have an adverse credit history. According to an Education Department publication: "You are considered to have an adverse credit history if you are 90 or more days delinquent on any debt or if, within 5 years of the date of the credit report, you have been the subject of a default determination, bankruptcy discharge, foreclosure, repossession, tax lien, wage garnishment, or write-off of a Federal Student Aid debt (for example, a Direct Loan or Federal Stafford Loan)."

That doesn't sound like you, but you've reviewed your credit report and should know if any of that showed up on the report.

If you have a poor credit background, the federal publication goes on to say that you may still receive a Direct PLUS Loan if you obtain an endorser who does not have an adverse credit history. Similar to a co-signer, an endorser is someone who agrees to repay the student loan if you do not repay it.

As you said you have co-signer options, you should be all set to obtain student loans regardless. Also, many universities offer tuition waivers or tuition assistance for graduate students who work for the university as researchers or teaching assistants. If you haven't looked into this option yet, I would suggest doing so. Good luck with your graduate school studies.

Mobile Messenger eBuddy Appoints New COO As It Aims To Cash In On Growth

3781v2-max-250x250In a bid to capitalise on what it says is a period of "accelerated growth", eBuddy, the Dutch web and mobile messaging company, has appointed Sytse Zuidema as its new Chief Operations Officer, where he'll be charged with leading the management team and overseeing day-to-day operations, such as sales, marketing, and product development. Zuidema has plenty of experience, having served as Chief Commercial Officer for Dutch cable operator, Casema, where he's said to have played a "significant role" at the company during a 2006 merger that lead to a $2.6 billion sale. And it's this experience that eBuddy aims to tap into, perhaps as it gears up for an exit of its own.

Everything you need for Cyclemeter to work is right in your iPhone, unlike MapMyRide+ ($2.99, 4 stars), which sends you to its website for certain data access and tries to upsell you to a Pro account for additional stats.

Cyclemeter is accurate, rich with features and data, and works well, making it our Editors' Choice app for bicycling. It was, however, designed to be used on a handlebar mount, which could drive up the total cost. The app does function just fine if you ride with it in your bag or pocket, but you'll lose the ability to pause the app during stop times.

Rich With Features
Turn on Cyclemeter for iPhone when you start a bike ride, and it will track your speed, distance, elevation, total ride time, and stop times (so long as the app is mounted where you can easily pause and resume by tapping the screen), as well as plot your route on a map.

Speed, distance, and ride time appear live on screen while you pedal, as well as in detailed graphs when your ride is complete. When I tested the app, the distance calculations and GPS map of my routes were spot on. If you bike a particular route often, such as a home-to-office commute, you can save it to the app and use it to compare future rides. You can also add more detail about whether the route is difficult or easy, for example.

If you're a hardcore athletic type, you can add peripherals to the app, like a Bluetooth connected heart rate monitor to record even more data about your physical fitness and calorie burn. Cyclemeter also lets you connect with competitors, so you can, for example, pull another user's best time to set a new goal for yourself.

One great feature for serious cyclists is that Cyclemeter captures splits, giving you, for example, your average speed during the first five miles as compared to the second five-mile stretch.

The more you use Cyclemeter, the more items it will show in your history list, which lets you see at a snapshot the length of your rides in miles (or km if you change the settings) and time.

One feature I nearly missed is that Cyclemeter can calculate your calorie burn for rides based on your age, weight, and sex. I wish the app had prompted me to enter this tiny amount of personal data after installation. Instead, I missed out on having it for the first few rides. However, if you add your stats later, Cyclemeter does ask if you'd like to use the newly entered information to go back and recalculate calorie burn for the rides that didn't have it.

Maps
Cyclemeter uses maps powered by Google Maps, giving you the ability to switch between three different views: map form, satellite image, and hybrid satellite-map form. Start point and end markers use the familiar Google Map balloons, but Cyclemeter adds in green five-mile markers as well.

While I have no complaints about the mapping feature, one addition I would love to see is more integration with Google Maps, particularly as it adds bicycle routes and trails to its directions services. I'd love to be able to look up a destination and take off in the right direction all from the same screen.

Audio Feedback and Music
Audio feedback is another solid feature in Cyclemeter, and it's highly customizable. You can set the app to announce your progress (distance, remaining distance, speed and pace, for example) as well as your status compared with a competitor.

The app also contains pre-installed training programs for races, although they're only for runners (5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon). I'd love to see some pre-programmed plans for cycling?above and beyond basic interval training, which is included.

If you refuse to pedal without music, Cyclemeter built a special feature just for you: a pane that you can swipe to from the main window that lets you access your iPhone's music. No need to jump from app to app. You can pause, skip ahead, rewind, and toggle to a different playlist with just a few screen taps.

Cyclemeter Has More
Cyclemeter collects a wealth of data, is very accurate, contains several well thought out features, and appeals to fitness enthusiasts who participate in more than one sport. Cyclemeter is a whiz, and it's our Editors' Choice. There are even more feats this app can do that I haven't even had a chance to catalog here (sharing via social media, exporting data to spreadsheets, and on and on). Cyclists looking for a great app that captures their excitement on the road need not look further.

PASADENA, Calif. In 1969, an exploding fireball tore through the sky over Mexico, scattering thousands of pieces of meteorite across the state of Chihuahua. More than 40 years later, the Allende meteorite is still serving the scientific community as a rich source of information about the early stages of our solar system's evolution. Recently, scientists from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) discovered a new mineral embedded in the space rockone they believe to be among the oldest minerals formed in the solar system.

Dubbed panguite, the new titanium oxide is named after Pan Gu, the giant from ancient Chinese mythology who established the world by separating yin from yang to create the earth and the sky. The mineral and the mineral name have been approved by the International Mineralogical Association's Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification. A paper outlining the discovery and the properties of this new mineral will be published in the July issue of the journal American Mineralogist, and is available online now.

"Panguite is an especially exciting discovery since it is not only a new mineral, but also a material previously unknown to science," says Chi Ma, a senior scientist and director of the Geological and Planetary Sciences division's Analytical Facility at Caltech and corresponding author on the paper.

The Allende meteorite is the largest carbonaceous chondritea diverse class of primitive meteoritesever found on our planet and is considered by many the best-studied meteorite in history. As a result of an ongoing nanomineralogy investigation of primitive meteoriteswhich Ma has been leading since 2007nine new minerals, including panguite, have been found in the Allende meteorite. Some of those new finds include the minerals allendeite, hexamolybdenum, tistarite, and kangite. Nanomineralogy looks at tiny particles of minerals and the minuscule features within those minerals.

"The intensive studies of objects in this meteorite have had a tremendous influence on current thinking about processes, timing, and chemistry in the primitive solar nebula and small planetary bodies," says coauthor George Rossman, the Eleanor and John R. McMillan Professor of Mineralogy at Caltech.

Panguite was observed first under a scanning electron microscope in an ultra-refractory inclusion embedded in the meteorite. Refractory inclusions are among the first solid objects formed in our solar system, dating back to before the formation of Earth and the other planets. "Refractory" refers to the fact that these inclusions contain minerals that are stable at high temperatures and in extreme environments, which attests to their likely formation as primitive, high-temperature liquids produced by the solar nebula.

According to Ma, studies of panguite and other newly discovered refractory minerals are continuing in an effort to learn more about the conditions under which they formed and subsequently evolved. "Such investigations are essential to understand the origins of our solar system," he says.

###

Additional authors on the American Mineralogist paper, "Panguite, (Ti4+,Sc,Al,Mg,Zr,Ca)1.8O3, a new ultra-refractory titania mineral from the Allende meteorite: Synchrotron micro-diffraction and EBSD," are John R. Beckett, senior research scientist at Caltech; Oliver Tschauner from the University of NevadaLas Vegas; and Wenjun Liu from the Argonne National Laboratory. The study was supported through grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and NASA's Office of Space Science.

gliderSuppose you dropped your phone -- a real fall, like from the second story -- and it broke. You're picking up the pieces, cursing and trying to think of the last time you backed up your contacts, when you notice something. Deep within the phone's hardware, hidden from everyday use, you find a message -- etched right onto the chassis. What kind of message? Let's say you found a Darwin fish, or the letters YHWH? Or perhaps something a little more difficult to decipher -- a code or symbol of some kind, not an inventory number, but still something meant to be seen and read? What would you make of it? This isn't actually a hypothetical situation or something out of a Neal Stephenson book. Apple has actually done this -- and the symbol they've chosen is as arcane and ominous as it is unmistakable.

Girl, 5, killed, driver held in Calif. hit and run

By Melissa Pamer and Antonio Castelano, NBC4 Los Angeles

A young girl died and her mother and sister were injured in a hit-and-run collision in Santa Ana, California, police said Saturday.

The suspected driver was arrested a few blocks away when a witness driving behind blocked the car in, pinning the suspect until police could arrive, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.?He called the witness' response a "heroic action."

The driver, Jessica Louise Cowan of Frazier Park, was being held at Santa Ana jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, as well as driving under the influence, Bertagna said. She may also face vehicular manslaughter charges, Bertagna said.

A preliminary field sobriety test led police to believe she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Bertagna said.

More details, including video, at NBC4 News

In video shot at the scene on Saturday morning Cowan is seen handcuffed and being placed into a patrol car. Her 2002 silver Lexus sedan had a smashed windshield and dented hood and front bumper.

The mother, a 45-year-old Latina, and her two daughters, ages 5 and 6, were crossing in the cross walk at 17th and Spurgeon streets when a small silver car ran a red light "at a high rate of speed" and collided with all three victims, Bertagna said. The victims had the right of way.

The victims were pushed 60 to 70 feet down the road, he added. A pair of children's shoes could be seen left in the roadway in video from the scene.

"The suspect in this case showed no regard for the actions they did," Bertagna said. "This is horrific."

The 5-year-old was killed, while her 6-year-old sister and mother were in critical condition with head trauma, Bertagna said.

They live close to the scene of the collision, he said. A crowd of relatives could be seen at the collision site.

The incident was reported to police at 11 a.m. PT/ 2 p.m. ET.

Natural Gas Can Deepen U.S.-Israel Commercial Ties

Israel recently discovered world-class natural gas reserves off its coast, presenting a range of new possibilities for the country ? economic, strategic, and political. This news presents the nation with an opportunity to strengthen its energy sector while introducing a new revenue stream. Since Israel does not have the infrastructure in place yet to access and refine its natural gas resources, it has turned to U.S. private sector expertise.

For this reason, the U.S. Chamber?s U.S.-Israel Business Initiative announced the launch of a new program to enhance U.S.-Israel energy cooperation last week at a dinner with a high-ranking delegation of Israeli officials. Chaired by Noble Energy, the largest investor in Israel?s growing natural gas sector, the program aims to enhance the Israeli government?s understanding of the global energy sector while establishing robust and mutually rewarding commercial ties between Israel?s hydrocarbon sector and U.S. businesses.

The? Israeli delegation? discussed the challenges and opportunities in developing Israel?s new energy portfolio and ways in which energy cooperation could be a new vista for broader U.S.-Israel strategic cooperation.

The timing for this partnership could not be better. While American companies are establishing themselves to lead the way in developing Israel?s natural gas sector and other sectors that accompany growth of the industry, policymakers are establishing the regulatory regime that will shape the sector for future generations. Reflecting the range of potential areas for collaboration, discussions at the dinner included ways that the United States and Israel could cooperate on the implementation of regulations, export policy, environmental policies, and industry standards.

Louisiana?s senior Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) joined the dinner and discussed opportunities for states like Louisiana and Texas to share best practices and lessons learned in developing a natural gas industry. She said, ?Israel?s historic gas discovery of more than over 27 trillion cubic feet is a game changer, both economically, and geo-politically - the U.S. is eager to share our expertise to help this critical ally successfully develop these resources.?

Last week, the Chamber also co-hosted an event on Capitol Hill with Major General (Ret.) Danny Rothschild, Director of the Institute for Policy and Strategy at IDC Herzliya, who discussed the importance of greater U.S.-Israel cooperation on energy security in light of a volatile and ever-changing Middle East.

By bolstering these strategic relationships, we can promote long-term strategic relationships in the Middle East, while enhancing our economies and creating new employment opportunities for Americans and Israelis alike.

So many ideas.

So, I had completely forgotten about this account and website, but I got it back just in time, because I've been yearning to start and write a roleplay. My roleplaying 'abilities' might be a little rusty, so you'll have to bear with me.

Anyway, this post is going to be a small compendium of the ideas I've currently have on my mind (I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum to post this?) and the feedback you people might give me. I actually encourage you to criticize and tell me what you'll add or fix!

First scenario/idea would be...

Something along the lines of Ana?s Mitchell's Hadestown (A wonderful album by a wonderful artist.), an album that's based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, but with a small twist. It's set in a post-apocalyptic, depression-like era. Here Hades is the self crowned king of an underground city called Hadestown, sorrounded by a huge wall (Aptly named the River Styx, because no-one who tries to cross it survives.), thousands of people come everyday, begging for work at Hadestown's mines, Hades accepts some but rejects some more. He meets Eurydice at the train station, where a train to Hadestown was just leaving and convinces her to go with him.
Meanwhile, Persephone, Hades' wife, comes to town every winter. But she doesn't approve of her husband's ideas so instead, she smuggles different goods into the city to sell them to the secluded inhabitants.

That is a really shortened version of the whole album's story, but what I intend to do with this roleplay is try and expand this universe. My main idea was to turn the gods from mythology into the kings/presidents/chiefs of said era countries or settlements. For example, Fleet Admiral Poseidon could be the leader of a group of Navy stranded in the middle of the sea, etc.

I think this is really good idea, but it'll be really hard to keep it controled, considering the huge possibilities based on the HUGE amount of gods and goddesses on the greek mythology.

Second one, coming right up.
This one is more original, if you will. And bit more heretic.

Set in a universe where technology (And science in general.) is more related to religion, most of the land is barren, giving people really few places to live in. Three factions started to gain power and fame.

A mysterious organization known as Heaven, which quickly started to conquer and surround with fences the few inhabitable spaces on the land. But they don't just take them away, they actually start developing said terrains, quickly turning them from deserts or barely fertile to big, exuberant forests and gardens. With the help of Angels (What we know as Androids.) and under the direction of a person only known as G.O.D (Their real name, gender or age is unknown. Nobody even knows if G.O.D is a human, an 'angel', or something else.) they quickly started gaining adepts and followers, offering them access to the glorious gardens, to be tended by the angels... but at the same time, their law is what most would call tyrannical, punishing and killing people for the pettiest crimes.

There still are few human settlements scattered around the earth, even though they're rare and barely surviving. People from these settlements expertise in hunting and farming, but since most places are completely barren, or conquered by the other two factions, they are forced to live in a constant hurry, trying to make the best out of everything. Using every part of an animal, or a plant. Constantly moving from one part to another, so they have more chances to get more food...

Finally, Hell, composed of those humans who had been exiled from their tribes. And the few mutants that managed to keep living despite their mutations and impediments. These mutants aren't like the x-men type, at all, though. They just have mutated due to the huge cataclysm that happened ages ago on earth. Most of the living mutants have really small mutations, or else they wouldn't have survived to reach adulthood. Claiming that earth belongs to everyone, not just a select group of people they actually go against Heaven's desires, boycotting and hacking their servers as much and as frequent as possible. They're generally settled in the ruins of cities, living either in the sewers or in the tunnels, only going out at night. They prefer to rely on the technology found on said ruins, salvaging as much as possible and using gadgets that are outdated and turning them into weapons or useful devices.

To Make Money On The Internet You Need To Get Started Right ...

Making cash online is not as hard as many individuals believe and you?re going to find that there?s a lot of different methods that you can go about making money online. Network advertising and marketing and affiliate marketing are a couple of the most popular ways that folks use for creating a full time living, or at least part time. Either business can be up and running without much cash and the skills won?t take too long to learn, so both are excellent online businesses.

Producing a commission for the product that you sell is what is known as affiliate advertising and marketing, actually you may say that this is the simplest definition of this. When we say, sell a product online, what we?re basically discussing is sending folks to your affiliate web site to be able to earn a commission. Regardless of what company you sign up with to be an affiliate, they?re going to supply you with a website, that you have to have to send traffic to. In relation to Network Advertising you are going to discover that this is much more of a multilevel advertising and marketing program even though you still get paid for any sales you produce. You are building an organization with network marketing, making it different from affiliate advertising, as you are building a down line, each and every time you sign up another person in your business.

You are going to see that there is a fantastic benefit to getting into Network Advertising and marketing and that?s the reality that the commission?s you earn aren?t just on your product sales but on your down lines product sales as well. You will make more money the larger your organization grows, which happens not only each and every time you sign up somebody, but every time those who are under you sign up someone as well. This is really a great way to build a massive down line simply because every person will be working together to help you with this. In spite of which approach you take when it comes to making cash online you?re going to find that the number one key to your success will be driving traffic to your site. And when it comes to driving this traffic to your site you?re going to find that there are plenty of different approaches folks take in order to accomplish this.

Your best bet in relation to driving traffic is to find one traffic producing method and learn everything you can about it in order to make it effective for you. Needless to say when you master one kind of advertising and marketing, you can then begin using another kind of advertising in order to start producing even more traffic. If you?re only using one form of marketing and advertising you?re going to see that if this marketing and advertising starts not to work, you?ll no longer be pulling and traffic to your websites, so multiple ways of driving traffic is essential. Before you add on new kinds of traffic generating techniques it?s vitally important that you understand and are effective with the previous strategies of advertising you have been using.

If you would like to be successful on the web it doesn?t matter what kind of business you plan on running, multiple ways of getting visitors or traffic will be vital. It?s important to drive massive amounts of traffic to your websites simply because only a tiny percentage of them are actually going to end up buying something. When you get started on the right track you are going to find that creating an income online won?t be as difficult if you have as much traffic as you can muster.

Solar plane makes 2nd attempt in Morocco flight

(AP) ? An experimental solar plane hoping to one day fly around the world tried again Thursday to fly over Morocco's Atlas Mountains after being thwarted a week ago by high winds.

The delicate Solar Impulse has the immense wing span of a commercial jet but is only the weight of a family car, making it quite vulnerable to bad weather. It took off in the morning from the capital Rabat and hopes to reach the city of Ouarzazate, 280 miles (465 kilometers) away by late evening, where it will fly over the site of Morocco's proposed solar power plant.

Pilot Andre Borschberg attempted the same flight on June 14 but had to turn back after unexpectedly strong winds buffeted the slow-moving plane and sent it reeling backwards. The plane has relatively weak battery-powered turboprop engines that are recharged by the 12,000 photovoltaic cells covering its body. It is the only solar powered craft that can fly day and night.

"Because of its big size and low speed, we cannot go into areas of heavy turbulence like the big commercial planes can," Borschberg told The Associated Press from the cockpit of the aircraft as he flew over Morocco's coastline near Casablanca.

An improved version of the plane hopes to make a round-the-world flight by 2014 and Borschberg said they will be careful to choose a route that offers the calmest weather.

The plane will never replace fuel-powered commercial flights, its creators say, but rather was designed to showcase the possibilities for solar power.

Morocco was chosen as the destination for its first transcontinental flight from Europe because of the North African kingdom's ambitious plans to create huge solar energy plants ? the first of which will be constructed at Ouarzazate.

Morocco plans to eventually build five solar plants to lessen its dependence on fossil fuels and produce 2,000 megawatts of solar energy by 2020. By that year, it hopes to derive 40 percent of its energy needs from renewable energy resources and eventually export electricity to Europe.
