It landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California and will soon retire at a museum in Los Angeles.

The specially modified?Boeing 747?with the newly retired spaceship perched on its back touched down safely at 12:50 p.m. local time (3:50 p.m. EDT) at Edwards, about 100 miles (160 km) north of Los Angeles in the Mojave Desert.

NASA retired its shuttle fleet last year after completing the U.S. portion of the $100 billion International Space Station, a permanently staffed research complex that is owned by 15 nations and orbits about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth.

Endeavour embarked on its last cross-county "ferry" journey on Wednesday from?Cape Canaveral,?Florida, and made several low-altitude passes over NASA centers in?Mississippi,?Louisiana?and?Texas?before stopping for the night at Ellington Field near the?Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The trip resumed early on Thursday, with Endeavour?and its carrier jet making additional flyovers - one over?Tucson,?Arizona, in a salute to former Congresswoman?Gabrielle Giffords?and her husband,?Mark Kelly, the retired astronaut who commanded Endeavour's final flight on his last mission in late May 2011.

Giffords, still recuperating from a gunshot wound to the head suffered in an attempt on her life last year, watched the flyover from the roof of a?Tucson?parking garage with her husband and mother, according to former aide?C.J. Karamargin, who joined them.

"When it came into view, Mark said, 'There's my plane!'" Karamargin recounted. "Gabby was just elated, hooting and hollering like the rest of us were."

From?Arizona,?Endeavour and its carrier jet flew on to?California, where the spacecraft was built two decades ago, for the landing at?Edwards Air Force Base.

The sprawling installation used to serve as the primary landing site for NASA's shuttle program before the space agency built a landing facility for the orbiters at the Kennedy Space Center in?Florida. Edwards then became the principal backup landing spot for shuttles in case of bad weather at Cape Canaveral.

How to Build Wooden Dog Crates | NOLA Marketing and SEO ...

September 22, 2012 ? Pets ?

Are you interested in building wooden dog crates for your dogs? If your answer to this question is ?yes?, then here is what you need to do. These wooden crates are all about comfort, so the first thing you need to do is to establish their measurements. You can measure your dog and then add a few extra feet in both width and length; if you do this, then your dog will have enough room to turn around, stand up and lay down. The next thing you need to do is to cut the plywood according to the measurements you have already established; also cut the slats.

The four slats should be nailed around the base, otherwise they will not be secured and the wooden dog crate will fall apart. Once the slats are nailed and the plywood is correctly attached, you can add the door. You don?t necessarily have to make the door, especially if you are not a talented person in crafts; you can choose to purchase a custom made door. Of course, this applies to the entire dog crate; if you feel that you don?t have what it takes to do it yourself, you can purchase a custom made wooden dog crate.

Stretches All Desk Workers Should Do Today | Greatist

?

Stretch on the Job

We know sitting at a desk all day is bad for us. But not everyone has a company gym membership or a workweek that allows for morning and afternoon fitness classes. So here are six stretches that loosen the muscles made most stiff by sitting. No gym equipment or extended lunch hours required!

1. Neck and Shoulders. Hunching over keyboards strains the cervical spine and stiffens our shoulders. On the next bathroom break, reach your arms behind you, and interlock your fingers so that your palms face. Lift your arms so you feel a stretch in your chest and front shoulders. Draw your chin down to avoid crunching the neck. (Of course, feel free to do this at your desk. Tell anyone who gawks to follow suite.)

2. Hip Flexors & Iliopsoas. These muscle groups are at an especially high risk of tightening after long days at a desk. Here?s a morning and after-work stretch to keep ?em lengthy. Kneel on the floor (top of the shins and feet as your base, torso straight). Pick up your left leg and place the left foot on the floor, keeping the knee directly above ankle. Keep both hips horizontally aligned as you move your torso toward the wall in front of you, gliding the knee forward. You may feel a stretch in your calf and Achilles. Place the hands on the top of the left thigh for support. Hold for 30 second. Switch sides. Repeat.

3. Abdominals. Reach your arms above you and lean slightly back so your chest and throat point towards the sky. If you have difficulty balancing, keep your gaze forward or down to the floor. Repeat on the other side.

4. Obliques. From the original hip flexor stretch (low lunge, left foot forward, right knee and shin on the floor) reach your left arm to your side and touch the fingers to the floor or stack of books for support. Curve your right arm over your head reaching the right fingertips over the left side of your body. Hold for 20 seconds. Breathe. See if you can stretch a bit further, then return to a straight spine. Switch legs and repeat on the other side.

5. Lower Back & Lats. Sitting for too long rounds out our spine in all the wrong places. The muscles surrounding the lumbar spine get particularly weak while the hamstrings can go slack. Lie on your stomach on the floor or on a mat. Hard version: Lift your legs off the floor. Easy version: Keep the legs on the floor. Bend your elbows and interlock your fingertips behind your neck (thumbs on either side of your neck, pointing towards your upper back). Lift your chin, look ahead. Inhale while lifting your torso as far off the floor as you can, albeit gently, by tightening the muscles along your spine. Lower down on an exhale. Repeat 10 to 15 times.

Now bend your knees and sit back on your heels (tops of the feet still touching the floor). Rest your torso on your thighs and your forehead on the floor or a pillow. Reach your arms out in front of you, walk the fingertips forward and retract the shoulder blades down the back. Keep your butt on your heels as you pick up your forehead and walk your hands over to the left, then to the right to throw in a lat stretch.

6. Whole Back/Spine & Hamstrings. De-stress your spine after it?s been chair-bound all day. Lie on your back, feet on the floor, knees bent. Draw both knees into the chest and gently rock. Then extend the left leg straight on the floor as you keep the right knee hugged towards the chest. Take a few breaths here and enjoy the hamstring stretch. Then, keep your right shoulder on the floor and guide the right knee across the midline of your body, towards the floor, with your left hand. It?s okay if your knee doesn?t touch the floor. Stop if you feel any pain at all. After 30 seconds, draw that knee back to center. Switch legs and repeat on the other side.

France stepped up security Wednesday at its embassies across the Muslim world after a French satirical weekly revived a formula that it has already used to capture attention: Publishing crude, lewd caricatures of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. Worried France might be targeted, the government ordered its embassies, cultural centers, schools and other official sites to close on Friday ? the Muslim holy day ? in 20 countries. (AP Photo/Amine Landoulsi)

ISLAMABAD (AP) ? Hundreds of Pakistanis angry at an anti-Islam film that denigrates the religion's prophet clashed with police in the Pakistani capital Thursday, the most violent show of anger in a day that saw smaller demonstrations in Indonesia, Iran and Afghanistan.

The vulgar depiction of Islam's Prophet Muhammad in an American-made movie has angered Muslims across the world, with many taking to the streets to rally against the film. In recent days, the decision by a French satirical magazine to release cartoons crudely depicting the prophet has added to the tension.

In Pakistan, a crowd of more than 1,000 people tried to make their way to the U.S. Embassy inside a guarded enclave that houses embassies and government offices.

Riot police used tear gas and batons to keep stone-throwing demonstrators away from the enclave, and hundreds of shipping containers were lined up to cordon off the area. Some protesters were students affiliated with the Islamist hardline Jamaat-e-Islami party.

The demonstrations are expected to grow in Pakistan on Friday, the traditional day of prayer in the Muslim world. The Pakistani government has called a national holiday for Friday so that people could come out and demonstrate peacefully against the film.

That decision drew rare words of praise from the Pakistani Taliban, which is usually at war with the government.

A spokesman for the militant group said it welcomed the decision but also thought the government should expel all American diplomats.

Violence over the amateurish movie, which portrays the prophet as a fraud, womanizer and child molester, has left at least 30 people in seven countries dead, including the American ambassador to Libya. Two people have died in protests in Pakistan.

In Indonesia, the U.S. consulate in the country's third-largest city of Medan shut its doors Thursday for a second day because of demonstrations.

About 50 students from an Islamic university gathered in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province in Indonesia. They burned tires and forced a McDonald's restaurant to close. The door was later covered with a sign saying, "This must be closed as a symbol of our protest of the 'Innocence of Muslims' made in the U.S.," referring to the title of the film.

In Iran, hundreds of students and clerics gathered outside the French embassy in Tehran to protest the publication of the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in the French weekly.

Protesters chanted "Death to France" and "Down with the U.S." and burned the flags of the United States and Israel. The demonstration ended after two hours.

In Kabul, a few hundred people demonstrated in the downtown area against the film, chanting ant-American slogans before dispersing peacefully.

Chicago Teacher Strike Ends, But Schools Still ... - Yahoo! Finance

Follow The Daily Ticker on Facebook!

Roughly 350,000 Chicago students are back in school Wednesday as the impasse between the Chicago Teachers Union and the city came to an end after a seven-day strike.

"We said that it was time ? that we couldn't solve all the problems of the world with one contract, and that it was time to suspend the strike," said Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the settlement an "honest compromise."

The deal contains concessions from both sides. A major compromise for teachers was agreeing to undergo evaluations based on students' standardized test scores, which they had opposed.

For onlookers in the private sector where evaluations are de rigueur, it seemed absurd that some of the highest paid teachers in the country did not want to be evaluated on the merits of student performance, says The Daily Ticker's Henry Blodget in the accompanying interview. Teachers in the nation's third largest school district earn an average annual salary of $76,000.

[Related: Chicago Teacher Strike Underscores One of the Most Important Issues of Our Time]

The terms of the three-year contract (which could be extended to four years) have not been made public, but here's what we do know:

  • Teachers will receive a 17% pay raise over the next four years, an annual increase of 4.4%.
  • The school day for elementary kids will be extended to 7 hours versus less than 6 hours before the strike.
  • Teachers will be evaluated based in part on student performance. This year and next, 25% of a teacher's evaluation will be based on standardized test scores. By 2014, roughly a third of a teacher's assessment will depend on student test scores.
  • The new contract still needs to be ratified by the union's 26,000 members, which could take up to several weeks.

While the deal settles the city's first teachers' strike in 25 years, education expert Pedro Noguera, a professor at New York University and director of the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education, says the new contract won't solve the city's failing school system, which has been under the guise of "reforms" for years.

"In the short term, [the teachers] clearly got what they wanted," says Noguera, who is also the author of "The Trouble With Black Boys ... And Other Reflections on Race, Equity and the Future of Public Education. The strike underscored that the "reforms that have been being pursued by Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Public Schools were really having an injurious impact on schools and on children."

Mayor Emanuel has been pushing to close failing schools, open new charter schools and base teacher evaluations on test scores. Chicago has closed more schools than any other school district, says Noguera, adding that all these ideas began when Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, sat at the helm of the Chicago Public Schools Board during the last decade.

[Related: Obama Education Chief: Complacency Caused U.S. to Slip to 16th in World College Graduation Rates]

Noguera says the strike brought attention to the ineffectiveness of these reforms. "The conditions in the schools are the issues that don't get enough attention, but were being raised by the teachers," he adds.

The conditions Noguera refers to include large class sizes, lack of playgrounds and no air conditioning, which can be distracting for students on days when temperatures hit 100-plus degrees. These are not good learning conditions, Noguera says. Student poverty also plays a large role in a child's ability to learn. More than 80% of students in Chicago Public Schools come from low-income households.

"The strike might not be the best way to raise those issues," says Noguera. "But if something is not done to improve learning conditions you are not going to see better outcomes."

Nissan's TeRRA SUV Concept Takes Sustainability off-road ...

Zero Emissions, Zero Limits

? Nissan-developed fuel cell vehicle opens path to future zero-emission SUV featuring electric 3-motor AWD

? Compact SUV exterior design expresses athletic eco-appeal with "Modern Toughness" that's confident off-road or in the city

? Unique seating layout and material fusion set a new paradigm in SUV category

? Portable instrument cluster creates seamless digital space

The Nissan?TeRRA SUV concept, to be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show on Sep 27, combines two outstanding Nissan strengths ? SUVs and EVs ? in a vehicle that is equally in its element off-road in the wild or gliding silently through a sophisticated urban setting. With an innovative 4x4 fuel-cell electric powertrain and an athletic exterior that projects an unforgettable presence beyond its compact dimensions, TeRRA takes sustainable motoring into exciting new territory.

Envisioned as "the one and only Zero Emission SUV," TeRRA builds on Nissan's success with urban-relevant SUVs and crossovers like Murano and Qashqai and asserts that its zero-emission expertise extends all the way to fuel cells. Designed as a functional and flexible choice for tomorrow's youthful, "always on" consumers, TeRRA answers their aspiration for eco-friendliness along with a secure driving feel under any road conditions.

"Our challenge was to take Nissan's strength in SUVs and crossovers forward into the zero-emissions era, fuel cells being our new frontier in zero emission mobility" said Francois Bancon, Nissan's devision general manager of product strategy and planning. "Not big and tough for the desert, the aim was a new approach to SUVs that's relevant to urban life. The unique diagonal seating layout that offers an exciting driving experience thanks to exceptional visibility that creates a sense of being in control under any conditions."

Tough on the outside, warm and welcoming within

"We took our inspiration from the lifestyles of youthful customers in Northern Europe," said Shiro Nakamura, Nissan senior vice president and chief creative officer. "We heard their aspiration for sustainable mobility that can take them anywhere they want to go."

"Exploring our imagination of that natural space with the exterior, we have redefined the power of the SUV heritage in a much more athletic way, one that expresses our vision of the zero emissions future," Nakamura said.

"You have the big tires, high belt-line, thick pillars and thin side windows of the SUV vocabulary. But with a slender waist between pronounced fenders above the wheel arches, and a sculptured hood, we've created an ?Implied Structure' of musculature under the skin. Sharp corners, short overhangs and sculptured lamps contribute to a clean, confident stance. An aerodynamically flat body pan in an eye-catching color, protecting the full length of the underside, completes the image of what we call ?Modern Toughness.'"

Open the door and exterior toughness gives way to a surprisingly warm and welcoming interior. The door panel is a sculpted fusion of blond wood trim and colored acrylic, layered in an intriguing pattern. Ringing the cabin at shoulder height is a metal frame that gives TeRRA's occupants a feeling of security. The wood/metal contrast continues across the dashboard, a beechwood-acrylic fusion that exudes a soft warmth. On the driver's side, the steering and instrument console gently tapers out toward the driver, barely interrupting the clean lines of the dash.

Seamless digital space?

Facing the driver is a unique instrument cluster. It's an electronic tablet ? just like today's popular portable devices ? that serves as an "intelligent key." The driver docks it when entering the car and removes it when leaving. When docked in TeRRA, the tablet's default view displays speed and other key performance indicators. But the driver can easily toggle to entertainment, communications, navigation and other views. Outside the car it provides all the functions we expect from a tablet, plus it stays continually in touch with the vehicle. The idea is seamless information and communication, on the road and everywhere else.

?offers a fresh perspective on the road

TeRRA's seamlessly connected driver sits front and almost center in a unique diagonal layout that positions rear passengers over the shoulders of those in front, rather than directly behind.

"For the driver to be nearly centered, not seated off to one side, provides a fresh, enlightened perspective with exceptional visibility," Nakamura said. "The diagonal layout allows all passengers to share the vision of adventures up ahead."

The seats themselves express a hexagonal motif that is carried through various aspects of the design. Fold the three passenger seats down and you notice that TeRRA's cabin deck is completely flat, presenting no obstacles to carrying bikes, kayaks or assemble-yourself furniture from Scandinavia. This flat surface is a function of the remarkably compact powertrain package that creates the possibility of this zero-emission concept.

Power, four-by-four; emissions, zero

Although TeRRA is presented as a design concept, not a technical exhibit, its proposed 4x4 fuel cell electric powertrain is far from imaginary.

Powering the front wheels is the electric propulsion system currently featured in the Nissan LEAF. In each back wheel, providing all-wheel power as needed, is an in-wheel electric motor, based on the working prototypes featured in three successive PIVO concepts. As no drive shafts are required to power the rear wheels, there is no hump in the cabin floor or on the underbody. This allows for the flat cabin deck and the underside bodypan.

Under the hood is ample space for Nissan's proprietary hydrogen fuel cell stack: a flat, highly compact unit that features world-leading power density of 2.5kW/L. The latest in a series of Nissan fuel cells since 1996, the stack costs just one-sixth of its 2005 predecessor as the need for expensive precious metals has been slashed to one-quarter of the previous level.

TeRRA is purely a concept car, but it signals that Nissan is ready to mass-produce fuel cell electric vehicles whenever hydrogen becomes widely available.

Heller seeks distance from Romney comments

(AP) ? Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada distanced himself Wednesday from fellow Republican Mitt Romney's comments that 47 percent of Americans are dependent on the government.

Democrats had tried to tie Heller and other Republicans to Romney's comments, which were secretly recorded as he spoke to donors in May. In the footage, Romney goes on to say that it's not his job to convince "those people" to take responsibility for their lives.

Democrat Shelley Berkley, who presents a strong challenge to Heller's re-election bid, said Heller and Romney read from the same script when it comes to the middle class. Those are fighting words in a state with the nation's highest unemployment rate and a close Senate race that could help decide which party controls the chamber next year.

"I do believe the federal government has certain responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is building bridges and roads, and national defense," Heller said Wednesday in Washington. "I also believe in a safety net for individuals who need the help, so that's why I would respectfully disagree with the comments that (Romney) made."

Heller pointed out that his mom was a school cafeteria cook, so that he had a "different view of the world" than Romney.

Like other Republicans grappling with the political fallout seven weeks out from Election Day, Heller sought to change the subject to comments that President Barack Obama made in 1998 about believing in some redistribution of wealth to make sure everyone has a chance.

"If I work hard in this country, will I be rewarded? This president says, 'No, you won't be rewarded. You're going to have to give that to someone else,'" Heller said. "That's the issue. That's what everybody is talking about in Nevada."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., also sought to associate Heller with Romney's comments, recalling that in 2010, Heller questioned whether federal policies on extending unemployment insurance for the long-term unemployed were creating hobos.

"I think he recognized how toxic Romney's comments are, but that's interesting coming from someone who just a short time ago compared the unemployed people to hobos," said Reid, Nevada's other senator. "That was his word: hobos."

Factbox: Details of agreement between Mayor Emanuel and Chicago teachers

(Reuters) - Chicago Teachers Union delegates meet on Tuesday to vote on whether to call off a strike, now in its second week, and allow schools to reopen on Wednesday.

Here are highlights of the new contract, according to a statements by the union, the school district and Mayor Rahm Emanuel:

* Teachers get a 3 percent raise this year, 2 percent in the second and third years, and could extend the contract to a fourth year by mutual agreement with a 3 percent raise. The new contract also preserves some automatic pay raises, or "step" increases, based on experience. Debt rating agencies have said these raises are greater than what the Chicago Public Schools had budgeted for and almost certainly will bust the budget.

* A minimum three-year agreement, which puts "our next contract campaign in the midst of the next mayoral election campaign," the union said.

* The union fought off Emanuel's demand for some element of pay being based on merit.

* On the key issue of teacher performance evaluations, Emanuel got a new system based in part on "student growth" including standardized test scores. But he had to back off on how much student test results will be weighted. The new contract will require that 70 percent of the evaluation be based on "teacher practice" and 30 percent on student performance including test scores. The new appraisals will not be used against tenured teachers in the first year of the system.

* The contract confirms Emanuel's earlier victory in extending the length of the school day in Chicago by an average of about 90 minutes. But union teachers will not have to work longer hours. Instead, Emanuel will hire more than 600 additional teachers in art, music, physical education, world languages and other classes to cover the longer days.

* Emanuel compromised on a union demand for job security by promising that half of all teachers hired by the district must be union members previously laid off by the closing of schools. But Emanuel said he also won new flexibility for school principals to hire whoever they want for open teaching positions. The union said it won an "anti-bullying clause that prohibits abusive and demeaning conduct by principals."

* The union said it won a pledge from the district that it hire a racially diverse teaching force after a record number of African-American educators were laid off because of the school closings in recent years.

Warming May Increase Tropical Rainfall, Study Shows

Climate Central:

It?s one of the classic predictions of global-warming science: as the planet heats up, extreme precipitation should become more common. That?s because warm air can hold more moisture than cool air, and when that moisture finally comes down as rain or snow, there?s more of it to fall.

Exactly how much more, however, is something scientists are still working out ? and a paper just published in Nature Geoscience has taken a step in that direction. According to author Paul O?Gorman, an atmospheric scientist at MIT, heavy downpours in the tropics are likely to increase by ten percent for every 1?C (1.8?F) increase in global average surface temperature.

Obama rips Romney for '47%' slam on Letterman

By Reuters

President Barack Obama slammed Mitt Romney on Tuesday for "writing off a big chunk of the country" after a secretly made video showed the Republican presidential nominee dismissing Obama supporters as victims who are dependent on the government.

"One of the things I've learned as president is you represent the entire country," Obama said on CBS's "Late Show With David Letterman."

"My expectation is if you want to be president, you've got to work for everybody, not just for some," he said to applause from the studio audience.

In the video, the first part of which was published on Monday by the liberal Mother Jones magazine, Romney told donors that 47 percent of Americans would back Obama no matter what and "my job is not to worry about those people."

Romney said they did not pay income taxes and were people "who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them."

Obama said he tried to reach out to people who did not support him after his victory four years ago.

"When I won in 2008, 47 percent of people who voted, voted for John McCain. They didn't vote for me," Obama said.

"And what I said on election night was, even though you didn't vote for me, I hear your voices and I'm going to work as hard as I can to be your president."

Obama, who as a candidate in 2008 made a damaging gaffe of his own that white rural voters clung to guns or religion, indicated he thought Romney should admit his remarks were a mistake.

"When you run for president, you are under a microscope all the time. All of us make mistakes. That incident in 2008, I immediately said, 'I regret this,'" Obama said.

"What I think people want to make sure of is you're not writing off a big chunk of the country."

Despite the focus on the video that was shaking up the presidential campaign, Obama's appearance was not wholly serious in tone. Upon arriving on stage, Obama told the comedian that he looked sharp.?

"You haven't seen me naked," Letterman replied.?

"We're going to keep it that way," Obama retorted.?

Letterman opened his show, which airs later on Tuesday, by poking fun at an incident at the Republican National Convention in which film star Clint Eastwood delivered a diatribe addressed to an imaginary Obama in an empty chair.?

"I want to know before we get started if you want to say something to the empty chair," Letterman said. Obama smiled.?

"Late Show With David Letterman" airs at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.

95% The Imposter

All Critics (86) | Top Critics (24) | Fresh (82) | Rotten (4)

The most fascinating aspect of the movie is why the missing boy's family believed the imposter's story.

You may begin to wonder if you aren't being conned by the movie yourself.

Beverly Dollarhide, Nicholas's mother, says of the period after her son's disappearance, "My main goal in life at that time was not to think." Apparently, the filmmakers have taken a cue from her.

Layton's dazzling film is an exciting, edge-of-your-seat experience superior to any Hollywood mystery you're likely to see for a long time.

"The Imposter" becomes more than just a missing-persons drama. It hints at something much darker: a real-life horror story, the full truth of which may never be known.

This is one creepy mystery.

Every bit as engaging as it is well-shot, it proves once more that truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction.

A mixture of documentary, mystery and thriller, which recounts an astonishing true story that gets more outrageous with each revelation

Strange and intriguing, searching for that elusive essence known as 'the perfect truth.'

Rather like watching a magician pulling off a trick which your eyes cannot see, The Imposter offers its own strange kind of magic.

The story is astonishing enough on its own, and The Imposter succeeds in enhancing its immediacy and intensity.

As his story unfolds, one gets the uncomfortable sensation that a joke is being played. But on whom?

One of the year's most provocative pictures.

Incredibly well-made and with a story you won't forget, "The Imposter" is one of the better docs of the season.

The Imposter emerges as a brilliantly slippery film that demands brain-stretching consideration. Astonishing, indeed.

It's an astounding story, truly, and Bourdin is the most chillingly sympathetic sociopath: frank, remorseless, matter-of-fact.

British director Bart Layton has only slightly fictionalised this extraordinary story for his documentary, which is told more as a thriller than a statement of hard fact.

"The Imposter" is one of the best films of the year.

Not only is the story riveting, but the film explores huge issues that really get under our skin

The Imposter frequently sends your jaw hurtling to the floor as it tries to understand the great pretender and a family only too willing to accept him as one of their own.

When this film was over, I felt as if I had been holding my breath for 99 minutes. It is pure, delicious suspense.

The mysteries stick with you. In 20 years time, someone will leap up and shout, "Eureka!"

Think of Clint Eastwood's Changeling and multiply by the power of reality.

The month's second mind-blowing doc ... a thinker that deserves the thought.

Afghan militants say blast that killed 12 was revenge for film

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan militants claimed responsibility on Tuesday for a suicide bomb attack on a minivan carrying foreign workers that killed 12 people saying it was retaliation for a film mocking the Prophet Mohammad.

A short film made with private funds in the United States and posted on the Internet has ignited days of demonstrations in the Arab world, Africa, Asia and in some Western countries.

In a torrent of violence blamed on the film last week, the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed in an attack in Benghazi and U.S. and other foreign embassies were stormed in cities in Asia, Africa and the Middle East by furious Muslims. At least nine other people were killed.

On Tuesday, a suicide bomber blew up a minivan near the airport in the Afghan capital and a spokesman for the Hezb-e-Islami insurgent group claimed responsibility.

"A woman wearing a suicide vest blew herself up in response to the anti-Islam video," said militant spokesman Zubair Sediqqi. Police said the woman may have been driving a Toyota Corolla car rigged with explosives, which she triggered.

But the claim will raise fears that anger over the film will feed into deteriorating security as the United States and other Western countries try to protect their forces from a rash of so-called insider attacks by Afghan colleagues.

Thousands of protesters clashed with police in Kabul the previous day, burning cars and hurling rocks at security forces in the worst outbreak of violence since February rioting over the inadvertent burning of Korans by U.S. soldiers.

The protesters in Kabul and several other Asian cities have vented their fury over the film at the United States, blaming it for what they see as an attack on Islam.

The outcry saddles U.S. President Barack Obama with an unexpected foreign policy headache as he campaigns for re-election in November, even though his administration has condemned the film as reprehensible and disgusting.

In response to the violence in Benghazi and elsewhere last week, the United States has sent ships, extra troops and special forces to protect U.S. interests and citizens in the Middle East, while a number of its embassies have evacuated staff and are on high alert for trouble.

Despite Obama's efforts early in his tenure to improve relations with the Arab and Muslim world, the violence adds to a host of problems including the continued U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan, Iran's nuclear program, the Syrian civil war and the fall-out from the Arab Spring revolts.

PROTESTS, BANS

The renewed protests on Monday dashed any hopes that the furor over the film might fade despite an appeal over the weekend from the senior cleric in Saudi Arabia, home to Islam's holiest shrines, for calm.

Afghan police said among the 12 dead in the Kabul bomb attack were eight Russians and South Africans, mostly working for a foreign air charter company named ACS Ltd.

It followed a bloody weekend during which six members of Afghanistan's NATO-led alliance, including four Americans, were killed in suspected insider attacks carried out by Afghans turning on their allies.

Protesters also took to the streets in Pakistan and Indonesia on Monday and thousands also marched in Beirut, where a Hezbollah leader accused U.S. spy agencies of being behind events that have unleashed a wave of anti-Western sentiment in the Muslim and Arab world.

Authorities in Bangladesh have blocked the YouTube website indefinitely to stop people seeing the video. Pakistan and Afghanistan have also blocked the site.

Iran has condemned the film as offensive and vowed to pursue those responsible for making it. Iranian officials have demanded the United States apologize to Muslims, saying the film is only the latest in a series of Western insults aimed at Islam's holy figures.

The identity of those directly responsible for the film remains unclear. Clips posted online since July have been attributed to a man named Sam Bacile, which two people connected with the film have said was probably an alias.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, a Coptic Christian widely linked to the film in media reports, was questioned in California on Saturday by U.S. authorities investigating possible violations of his probation for a bank fraud conviction.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Alex Morgan scored a goal and set up another as the U.S. women's national soccer team rallied from a first-half deficit to beat Australia 2-1 Sunday in the second game on a post-Olympic tour.

Free Tornado ready to earn second OR second

If we look back at the way Free Tornado performed in Upland Tiger Maiden Trophy of August 26, we shall have every reason to believe that the C. Price trained black dog can easily bring home the glorious title of the Claydon Racing Puppy Trophy that is scheduled to be held at Coventry racecourse on Sunday night, September 16.

Pursuing the prize cheque worth ?200, the two-year-old novice hound will run alongside four mighty rivals after breaking from the blue box. While covering the distance of 485 meters, he will be able to show his sheer stamina perfectly.

Having gone through some gruelling drills, Free Tornado is all ready to trigger tornados in the race. In fact, his charged performance will be amazing to watch.

The young and enthusiastic hound started his career in March 2012. After breaking his maiden in a T2 race, he elegantly won the Bet With The Tote A4 525 Final at Shelbourne Park on July 5.

The talented son of Head Bound out of Knockglass Lady stunned all by winning two consecutive T3 races with mammoth margins in the month of August. In his maiden OR contest named as Ladbrokes August Festival Puppies - Heat 2, he finished 3rd.

The brilliant sprinter superbly bagged his maiden OR triumph on August 26. Following that, he finished 4th and 3rd in the two subsequent races of the same format

Thus, we can expect a thundering performance from Free Tornado. If anyone can challenge him, that will be Holdem Maldini who is awash with confidence following his outstanding 4?-length victory in the First Emergency Puppy Trophy - Div A, held at Coventry on August 26.

The C. Weatherall trained black dog moved on to finish as the runner-up in his last outing on September 9----that was the Upton Song Puppy Trophy.

During the month of July, the son of Droopys Maldini out of Move On Lacey nicely bagged a couple of consecutive conquests. Thus, the dog has enough potential to give tough time to his competitors.

The situation shows that a rip-roaring clash is imminent. This is going to be an acid test of Free Tornado?s skills. Good luck to him.

Seb Delanney ? blogging about supercars | Seb Delanney

By: Ashley Evans

?

??????????????? Certain companies make certain types of cars; Lamborghini makes Supercars, BMW makes ?fast luxurious cars, and Hummer (well until their extinction) made SUVs. But now it seems, the SUV brand has gotten companies that you would think would never touch the genre involved. Bentley, Aston Martin and now even Lamborghini have all joined in to show their interest in the SUV market.

??????????????? So the question is why? And will in even work? When I say will it even ?work? I mean companies like Land Rover and Toyota have been making SUVs for quite some time, therefore they are very good at making them. Reliability, toughness, and unlike the BMW X6 as shown on Top Gear able to go up a 20 degree incline. I feel that the term SUV at the present has turned into a fashion statement. Lamborghini and SUV do not mix, it is a simple fact. What Lamborghini should do is keep doing the thing that they are best at, making glamorous 200mph+ supercars that will forever be posted upon a car lover?s wall.?

?

??????????????? And Bentley has done the same exact thing with their SUV that was debuted at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show. In my eyes there are a few things wrong with it, starting with the name. It?s called the EXP 9 F, just try to imagine some bloke taking his wife home from a dinner party ?Come on darling; let?s take the EXP 9 F home.? Sounds more like some type of weapon out of Star Wars then a Luxury SUV. The looks bring it down too; the critiques of the car seem to be bang on with what I think about it, hideous. And it is only able to sit 4 people! Yet another pointless fashion statement, give it a few months and I am sure every rapper will have one.

??????????????? SUVs seem like a dying genre because of all the new Eco Plug-in cars that have surfaced there is no way that they will be able to keep up with the emissions. Extinction of the SUV brands may come sooner than we think. With a reported 600 horsepower the EXP 9 F will be fast, but it seems like what it is doing is just further digging a hole for itself and those following. The only hope is to make more economical SUVs that will not hurt Mother Nature too much. And let me tell you now, 600 horsepower out of a W12 is not helping the cause, Bentley!

??????????????? As much as it hurts me to say, this is how the Automotive world is now a days. The cars are becoming less powerful and crazy, and even Lamborghini?s cars becoming more refined. Okay that was one step too far. But with this Eco world we live in today it is hard to see how the SUVs and V12 Hypercars will make it through this ?Green? period. It seems like the kids of today will have the job of making sure that none of them disappear. No pressure.

Is Now the Time to Buy a Home? - Real Estate News and Information

Green home with white picket fence.

Could now be the right time to enter the market?

If you?re thinking about purchasing real estate, you?re probably wondering if now really is the best time to buy. After all, mortgage companies are advertising record low interest rates and several news outlets and industry experts are warning that home prices have hit bottom. The only direction left for rates and prices to go is up, they say.

So, if you want to snag a bargain should start your real estate search now? Perhaps. But before you set a home buying deadline and commit yourself to anything, keep a few things in mind. First of all, finding the best home at the most reasonable price will be more difficult for some buyers than for others. First time home buyers in particular may have more of a challenge in store, as the inventory of starter homes has been falling in the current market.

According to a recent article on MSN Real Estate (http://realestate.msn.com/is-now-really-the-best-time-to-buy), an inventory shortage has actually sparked a frenzy of purchasing activity in several areas. These housing market growth spurts have resulted in bidding wars and price increases, even for modest starter homes. Buyers with little to no money to put down may be stampeded by more qualified buyers with stronger offers to purchase ? yet another reason first timers may have trouble.

The inventory shortage contributed to price inflation of existing homes by 7.9% in June from the same period a year earlier, according to the National Association of Realtors. This information triggered some buyers to hit the ground running, thinking that if they didn?t act not, they might be priced out.

Be that as it may, this doesn?t hold true across the board. According to the MSN article, only a ?small fraction of buyers in certain markets or highly coveted neighborhoods? need worry.

Apart from considering your personal situation when determining whether to buy or wait, you should also keep your financing plans in mind. Interest rates have been close to historical lows, and some experts foresee them getting even lower, but that doesn?t mean you will necessarily qualify for the lowest rate available. Your credit standing, ability to make monthly payments and your down payment will all be factors. Also, you may qualify for special financing programs like FHA loans or no money down VA mortgages. Talk to a qualified mortgage specialist at AFR Mortgage to learn more.

We recommend speaking with a licensed and experienced real estate professional when considering purchasing a home.
