Ronda Rousey: ?I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight?

UFC/Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on Jim Rome's show on Wednesday. What does the champion use as her training secret? Does she have high-level training methods not available to amateur athletes and workout warriors?

Nope. She likes to have as much sex as possible before fights. Though Mick advised Rocky that women weaken the legs, Rousey believes it has the opposite effect on women.

"For girls it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight actually. Not with like everybody, I don't put out like a Craigslist ads or anything, but if I got a steady I'm going to be like, 'Yo, fight time's coming up,'" Rousey said.

She is not the first athlete to claim sex has benefits on the field of play. Elias Figueroa, a Chilean soccer player, said his coach advised him to have sex before important games. Argentinian soccer players were advised they could have sex during the World Cup, as long as it was with a regular partner and not accompanied by champagne.

There is little medical evidence that says sex has an effect, positive or negative, on an athletic performance.

"It certainly doesn't fatigue you in any particular way. So if we actually test your strength or your endurance the day after you've had sex, there's no effect," said Ian Shrier, a sport-medicine physician at the Jewish General Hospital at McGill University.

But if there is an exception, it's in combat sports like MMA. Maria Cristina Rodriguez Gutierrez, the director of sports medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, told CNN that sex can reduce aggression.

"For combat athletes like fighters or boxers, having sex before an important fight can reduce the aggressiveness and make them passive," although effects vary from person to person.

It clearly works for Rousey, who has steamrolled every opponent she has faced on her way to the championship and a 6-0 record. She's won every fight with a first-round submission, and she recently was named the first woman in the UFC. Though her opponent and the date for her first UFC fight are currently unknown, UFC president Dana White said her bout will be a main event on a pay-per-view.

Rousey is also a two-time Olympian, and she won a bronze medal for judo in 2008. It was a fight before the Beijing Olympics that made her think she could be successful in the cage.

"Yes. I got in a fight with a couple of guys at the end of 2007 in a movie theater. It was four couples so four guys and one girl tried to get into it. And I had two friends with me. But I was only really handling two guys by myself. They sued me for assault because it didn't really go too well for them. I guess if you lose a fight in Santa Monica the next option is to sue. Everyone in the theater was cheering for me. I was thinking I might have a future in this. It was before the whole MMA thing."

Beyond the run-of-the-mill sleep deprivation, I also was still using a donut pillow thanks to what I can only guess was the most gruesome labor ever (which, by the way, my OB called "textbook" and my doula called "beautiful"). Plus, thanks to "latch issues," I was suffering from what could only be described as a semi-detached nipple.

Then there was the small matter of my shopping paralysis. Trying to figure out which products -- from teethers to bubble bath to dish soap -- were truly safe and nontoxic was becoming a source of constant stress. I'd become familiar with this type of anxiety since becoming pregnant -- I felt it when I realized that the pickled ginger I ate by the gallon to stave off nausea may have contained MSG; when, after my tenth ultrasound, I read that ultrasounds on pregnant mice resulted in neural differences among the offspring. And while I ate mostly healthy and usually organic foods, I was beginning to realize -- with the help of my good friend Google -- how little I'd thought about the ingredients in all the other stuff I was buying for my new baby. As I looked for more info, I couldn't even figure out how to spell phthalates, let alone understand what they were and how they might be affecting Felix's endocrine system, whatever the hell that was.

I became an obsessive researcher. Nothing seemed safe: from the BPA-free plastic bottles that came with my breast pump, to the mattress where Felix slept, to the lanolin cream I applied regularly to preserve that dangling nipple -- potential danger lurked everywhere. I began compiling all the information I found in a Word document, with lists of "good," "bad," and "sneaky" stuff (which is what I called all that stuff at the health food store that you think is natural but turns out to be toxic).

As you may have noticed if you live here on planet Earth, lots of companies have jumped on the green/eco/natural bandwagon and sell products with misleading labels. I used sites like the Environmental Working Group's cosmetics database and cleaning products guide to learn more than I ever wanted to know about the safety profile of the ingredients in everything I was using. Of course, surfing these sites is an overwhelming experience, which is why I started compiling my own cheat sheets.

As increasing numbers of friends of friends began contacting me to ask about the safety of the products they were using, I decided to record all of my research in one spot where anyone could find it -- and this is how Gimme the Good Stuff was born. My hope is that it gives concerned but overwhelmed moms a way to easily navigate the confusing world of "natural" products. For a super quick start, here are five easy-to-implement strategies that will go a long way toward lowering your home's toxic load.

Avoid fragrances. If you cut out just one unhealthy ingredient in your cosmetics and household cleaning products, make it synthetic fragrance, which unfortunately makes an appearance in nearly all beauty products and sometimes shows up on the label as "parfum." Why does fragrance stink? Because it often contains phthalates, those nasty chemicals that have been suspected of causing early puberty, autism, obesity, and birth defects. Opt instead for unscented products or those that specify that they contain only natural essential oils.

Find substitutes for plastics. When it comes to plastic, BPA and phthalates have the bad reputations, but there is evidence that other plastics may leach hormone-disrupting chemicals, too. When possible, go for glass or stainless steel instead of plastic for food storage and bottles. If you must use plastic, don't microwave it, don't reuse water bottles, and avoid containers with #3, #6, and #7 recycling codes.

Get healthy on the inside. To lessen the potential damage of chemicals in your beauty products, boost your body's immune system with whole, organic foods. A healthier body is better able to handle the blast of phthalates you encounter whenever you walk through the cosmetics floor of Bloomingdale's. You can also help the inside of your home get healthy (indoor air is typically more polluted than outdoor, thanks to off-gassing furniture and smelly cleaning products) by opening windows, and loading up on air-purifying houseplants.

Invest in a safe mattress. I know this one is a drag since mattresses are such a big-ticket item. Unfortunately, the evidence about risks of a toxic mattress are pretty convincing: you and your kids have your faces smashed onto the thing for a solid third of your life, and the volatile organic compounds released from conventional mattresses have been linked with cancer in lab animals and respiratory, allergic, and immune effects in children. Look for mattress made of 100 percent natural latex, organic cotton, and wool, or get a doctor's prescription for a mattress that's untreated with fire retardants. Check out Gimme the Good Stuff's mattress shopping guide for a list of safe choices.

Use less stuff. If you are addicted to some bad stuff, fine -- just try to use less of it. The 17 anti-aging products you use probably are doing a lot less than a quick shot of Botox would (I'm not suggesting that Botox is innocuous -- only that at least it works). Or maybe you're addicted to a toxic brand of detergent. Fine, just buy the unscented version and skip the dryer sheets. If you're really brave, you could even become a "no-pooer" -- you won't believe how good your hair looks if you stop washing it. Seriously. Be particularly discerning about products that you use on your whole body on a daily basis (like the lotion you apply head to toe after every shower); I still use a phthalate-ridden perfume when I go out at night -- since that happens less than once a month, sadly.

The Bottom Line

Okay, we know stress is bad for both emotional and physical health. New-parent anxiety is a clich?, but the information glut of our modern era has taken it to a new level. I fully believe that the risks from environmental exposures are greater than ever before, but I also recognize that paranoia is rising right along with them. Diaper bags are packed with hand sanitizer and Epi pens, and I recently came upon foam bumpers for pregnant women to wear on their bellies and prevent damage from -- walking into pointed table corners, perhaps? My advice -- and my own goal -- is to stack the odds in our favor by reducing the known risks, and then take a deep breath and try to enjoy motherhood... whether or not I ever am able to banish every last bit of BPA from my home.

For more by Maia James, click here.

For more on natural health, click here.

?
"; Well, when it comes to coaching searches, the names remain the same.? From school to school and conference to conference.

Hi there, Jimbo Fisher.

Well, hello, Gary Patterson.

When you look at the lists for Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn, there are plenty of similarities.? Arkansas and Auburn are reportedly interested in TCU?s Patterson.? Tennessee and Auburn are reportedly interested in Fisher.? Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has had his name tied to both Tennessee and Auburn.? There?s been speculation about Arkansas State?s Gus Malzahn at both Arkansas and Auburn.

Last night, we worked the phones to get the latest skinny ? as of last night around 7pm ET ? on all three coaching searches in the SEC.? In speaking with an industry source as well as a source inside the Auburn athletic department, here?s what we?ve been able to piece together regarding the Tigers? search:

?

1.? The biggest question marks for Auburn involve off-the-field issues.? First, the NCAA?s latest investigation into the school.? It had been reported that AU assistants Curtis Luper and Trooper Taylor had been pulled off the road before Gene Chizk and his staff ? including Luper and Taylor ? were fired.? But AuburnSports.com reported yesterday (behind a paywall) that Luper, Taylor and fellow assistant Tommy Thigpen had decided to continue to try and hold AU?s recruiting class together.? A nice gesture on their parts, but will the NCAA be happy with that?

2.? The three would not be allowed to make calls and try to hang onto recruits if AD Jay Jacobs felt there was a greater NCAA risk in letting them do so.? Jacobs? sales job to a potential hire will have to be spot-on.? Allowing these three to handle recruiting matters in the interim suggests that he feels AU is not guilty of any major wrongdoing.? That will surely be his spin during the coaching search process.? Whether prospective coaches believe him or not will be an issue.

3.? One source told us that any coach looking at Auburn?s job should first call Lane Kiffin (Southern Cal), Al Golden (Miami), Larry Fedora (North Carolina) and Bill O?Brien (Penn State) to see if what they were told about possible NCAA sanctions during the hiring process actually meshed with what their programs actually, eventually received.? That answer is no, by the way.? A coach considering AU?s position will be aware of NCAA situation and all of those cases mentioned above.

4.? The other issue facing Jacobs during this search is his own job security.? He was on the hot seat at season?s end right along with Chizik.? Many fans, boosters, and even some board members wanted his head on a plate.? Whoever Auburn chases, Jacobs will have to convince that person that he?ll be Auburn?s AD for the long haul.? The potential for NCAA sanctions and for a new boss to take over will both make the Tiger job a bit tougher to sell.

5.? We asked one of our sources if there was also a ?Nick Saban fear factor? at play.? Meaning: Who would want to be the #2 guy in the state to Saban?? The response we got back: ?Saban won?t be at Alabama forever and there are plenty of ex-Sabanites who were more than willing to step into the SEC already.?? Derek Dooley, formerly of Tennessee, and Will Muschamp of Florida are the two obvious examples.

6.? We?ve been told that Fisher ? an ?ex-Sabanite? himself ? is at the top of Auburn?s wish list.? As we reported a few weeks ago, his recruiting ties for Florida State mesh perfectly with those he?d need on the Plains: the Florida panhandle, southern Georgia, and southern Alabama.? Before the NCAA investigation story broke, we?d been told that Fisher would prefer Auburn?s job to Tennessee?s due to the recruiting base.? But how much will the NCAA cloud hanging over AU impact his thinking?? Also, he?s not believed to be pleased with the administration at FSU.? Would he feel comfortable going to work for Jacobs knowing that he might have a new boss sooner rather than later?

7.? Fisher?s agent, Jimmy Sexton, will most assuredly play Auburn, Tennessee and Florida State against one another to try and land the splashiest deal possible for his client.? Who would win that bidding war (if Fisher is seriously unhappy in Tallahassee)?? Easy answer: Fisher and Sexton.

8.? TCU?s Patterson said this week that ?When someone calls, you should always listen because it?s the right thing to do.? But I?ve been at TCU for 15 years now, and I?ve always let that fact speak for itself.?? In other words, Patterson and his agent, George Bass, would chat with Auburn.? But the industry source we spoke to indicated that if Patterson were to leave TCU, Arkansas would probably make the most sense right now because the Hogs have cash to burn and no NCAA officials snooping around.? That said, it appears that he?s already balked at the Razorbacks deal.? Therefore, we believe he?d be a real long shot to land at Auburn.? In fact, we think it?s more likely he?d change his mind and actually move to Fayetteville before moving to the Plains.

9.? Whoever takes over at Auburn will need to know the lay of the land.? That points to Malzahn and Smart.? Malzahn served as Chizik?s offensive coordinator for three seasons and won a BCS championship ring in 2010.? He?s only been a head coach for one season at Arkansas State, but he knows the AU family and they know him.? Smart, on the other hand, knows the state and he knows the enemy.? It?s difficult to picture Auburn grabbing an ex-Bama assistant, but Pat Dye once served under Paul ?Bear? Bryant.? Of course, Dye had also moved on and become a head coach at East Carolina and Wyoming before taking the reins on the Plains.? Of these two prospects, Malzahn seems to make the most sense.

10.? Another factor in all of this is the three-man committee Jacobs will lean upon during ?his? search.? Ex-Tigers Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, and Mac Crawford will assist in finding the right man for the job.? As listed above, that won?t be easy due to the dynamics currently at play.? If they have trouble finding the right coach who will actually yes, might they get desperate?

11.? The industry source we spoke to said that Auburn and ex-Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino ? himself a former AU aide ? appear destined to partner up at this point.? For weeks, we heard the name Petrino batted about when we spoke with Auburn folks.? But just like everywhere else, there?s a real split when it comes to the coach who lost his last job in scandal.? Some in the AU athletic family believe the coach is a winner and his past troubles should be forgiven.? Others just plain don?t trust him.

12.? As we?ve written previously, Petrino longs for another shot in the SEC.? His father has actually admitted that to the media.? Petrino?s agent has reached out to officials at Auburn, Kentucky (who hired Mark Stoops yesterday) and Tennessee from what we?ve been told.? The Tigers ? if they can?t lure in someone else under the current circumstances ? could sign Petrino to an ironclad deal that would lock him to Auburn with a high-priced escape clause.? He?d sign such a deal if given the chance.? NCAA issues or not.? An AD on the hot seat or not.? Petrino wants back in and Auburn might find itself desperate enough to take him.

13.? So ironically ? if the mess at Auburn prevents the school from landing a big name coach ? the Tigers could actually land the best available coach completely by default.? That?s if Jacobs, Jackson, Sullivan, Crawford and the rest of the AU family can hold their nose and hand Petrino a contract.? Hey, Charles Barkley?s OK with it.

Source: http://www.mrsec.com/2012/11/ncaa-cloud-could-lead-auburn-to-petrino-the-latest-on-aus-coaching-search/

jon jones chuck colson death meteor showers 2012 ufc 145 jones vs evans marian hossa philip humber

Posted by doylevelva08 at 6:16 PM No comments:
Email This<a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-blog' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=8215476756786603698&postID=869986514696952134&target=blog' onclick='window.open(this.href, "_blank", "height=270,width=475"); In fact, it's so serious, that if it isn't handled right, you can destroy your brand name, and your company's reputation in a single quarter by attempting to up-sell all your customers into buying things they really don't want, can't afford, and are not interested in. Indeed, I would like to talk to you for a few moments about this if I might.
You see, before retirement I was in the mobile oil change business, and we did okay and it was great to get business from the fixed site locations who had tried to up-sell their female customers into buying and purchasing more services than they needed. Perhaps because they felt as if women didn't know enough about their cars, and were more apt to fall for these high pressure sales tactics. Surely, it worked for them, someone might come in for a $19.99 oil change, and go out spending $175 for all sorts of services that they may or may not have actually needed.

Yes, the auto industry unfortunately has gotten a bad rap because of strategies like this, although those companies who are engaged in that did have a decent run in the market for a few years, but now their brand names have collapsed. Still, some bad habits never die in the business world, and I was recently told by an auto body repair shop owner about how his customers were bullied into buying extra insurance at the local car rental company where he had been sending all of his clients. Now then, listen to this trickery sales tactic for a moment;

"It's going to be really windy this weekend, and it gets quite dusty around here out in the desert, so the sand will be blowing. You need to buy the extra insurance, so I don't charge you or your credit card that you left on file for wind damage from the sandblasting effect which might ruin the paint job of this rent-a-car that I just rented you."

Then the customer would feel obligated to buy the additional insurance for another $10 per day. Since the salesperson at the car rental agency was trying to boost the numbers of that local office, he would be rewarded for up-selling the customer. Of course, this high-pressure tactic also met with resistance from those knowledgeable customers who rent cars all the time, and have never heard of such nonsense. In this case, when they went back to the auto body shop owner who was fixing their car, while they were renting a temporary loaner, they complained, which also made the auto body shop owner look bad for referring them to that particular rent-a-car agency.

Now, he won't refer them anymore clients, so that rent-a-car agency may have made extra money in sales that month, but they won't be getting any more business or referrals from this gentleman ever again. Be careful, customer service matters, and it is not good customer service to gouge your customers, feed them full of BS, or use high-pressure sales tactics. There's really no place for that, certainly not if you want to maintain a strong brand image and solid reputation in the community. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on.

Source: http://bsbhabitat.blogspot.com/2012/11/customer-service-case-study-rent-car.html

kourtney kardashian DNS Changer ernest borgnine adrian peterson ESPYs 2012 venus williams Freeh Report

Posted by doylevelva08 at 2:11 AM No comments:
Email This<a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-blog' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=8215476756786603698&postID=9075087527427015297&target=blog' onclick='window.open(this.href, "_blank", "height=270,width=475"); (NYSE: HTZ) announced today that it has successfully completed its previously announced acquisition of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. (NYSE: DTG). As a result of the transaction, Dollar Thrifty has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Hertz.

Hertz Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mark P. Frissora said: "In the 94-year history of Hertz, our employees and business partners have never been this excited. Over the past six years, we have competed successfully with only one global premium brand in place while our competitors have had multiple brands to work against us. Starting today, we now have two additional, popular brands to compete across multiple market segments, with plans to offer them to our many partners and customers. That's why we are pleased to announce that the transaction is complete, and we look forward to working expeditiously with Dollar Thrifty to integrate the strengths of our two great companies."

Hertz completed a tender offer in which it purchased approximately 99.6% of the shares of Dollar Thrifty common stock then outstanding at $87.50 per share in cash.

Hertz subsequently acquired the remaining shares of Dollar Thrifty common stock by means of a short-form merger in which such shares were converted into the right to receive the same $87.50 per share in cash that will be paid in the tender offer. In order to accomplish the short-form merger, Hertz exercised its "top-up" option to purchase additional shares of Dollar Thrifty common stock directly from Dollar Thrifty. Dollar Thrifty's common stock will no longer be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

On November 20, 2012, Hertz posted to its website a summary of the divestiture agreement that Hertz entered into with the Federal Trade Commission in connection with the acquisition of Dollar Thrifty, a list of related frequently asked questions and PowerPoint slides.

About Hertz Global Holdings, Inc.

Hertz is the largest worldwide airport general use car rental brand, operating from approximately 8,800 corporate and licensee locations in approximately 150 countries in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and New Zealand. The strong cosmetic appeal can propagate the need for getting spotless, shiny teeth which can enhance your physical make over considerably.

However, before indulging into this technical reformation (of teeth), it is important to observe some risks underlying the procedure. Although cosmetic tooth whitening can be generally considered safe, there can be some significant risks which should be weighed with the benefits obtainable. Common cosmetic tooth whitening risks have been discussed under.

Common Risks Related to Tooth Whitening

Besides the fact that tooth whitening is only temporary lasting for a few months to about three years, no amount of bleaching can give you ?unnaturally? white teeth.? Find some risks, side effects and down sides of tooth whitening.

Adverse Effect on Teeth and Gums

Excessive teeth whitening or abuse of the whitening product(s) can be harmful. Experts point out that improper use of whitening product(s) can make the teeth edges bluish-translucent in color which cannot be changed to the usual color. Recessed gums can reveal their yellowish root surfaces at the gum line which is difficult to bleach.

Furthermore, the teeth can become extremely sensitive; gum tissue can get burnt and highly damaged. You may not observe the damage yourself easily but the dentist can identify it. Repeated implementation of teeth whitening products has great possibility of harming the teeth. The pain of oversensitive teeth can also be severe and hinder you from completing the course

Staining of Teeth

The risk of staining is always there and you need great care to keep your teeth pearly white. Care is needed when drinking staining ?liquids like tea, red wine and coffee which cause staining.

It is recommended to use a straw when drinking such things to prevent staining.? Besides, smoking also stains teeth and can easily upset the whitening procedure.

Use of Strong Bleaching Agents

Teeth?s whitening entails careful use of strong bleaches (peroxide). An expert hand is needed to hinder the harmful effects of the whitening procedure. The bleaches should be used in well fitting trays which fit comfortably over the teeth. When fitted improperly, there can be swallowing of large amounts of bleach which can be harmful.

Damage can also occur to the gums.?The easiest and most effective method of teeth whitening, bleaching, can be effective on yellow teeth; but there are pitfalls of doing the same. Bleaching can make discolored teeth (due to enamel worn out) even darker. Bleaching is not effective over fillings, crowns or other dental work including the receding gum teeth. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid bleaching as the chemical can travel from mouth to the inside of the body and ultimately to the baby.

Also Read

Top Risks Of Bleeching Teeth Whitening
Top Cosmetics Dentistry Benefits
Varoius Cosmetics Dentistry Treatments
6 Polpular Procedures In Cosmetics Dentistry

Presence of High Acids

Commercial whitening products can have a high acidic content (pH reading). The limit to percentage of active bleaching agent can direct makers to compensate with increased acid content in the whitening product. Teeth whitening may make teeth look white in the short term, but the acid can soften and dissolve tooth enamel over time leading to weaker and more yellow-looking teeth.

Source:?http://bleedinggumscauses.net/tag/contrary-to-popular-belief/

There is also risk of early wear out. Gels with excessive alkaline content can weaken the gums. Abrasive product can feel gritty by rubbing between a finger and thumb and need to be avoided.? The absence of professional dentistry can lead to permanent damage to teeth.

Non-adherence to Manufacturer?s Instructions

The do-it-yourself teeth whitening kits can be a popular choice with cosmetic hunters. If the product is used in moderation adhering to the directions, they can be harmless and effective. But when they are used inappropriately or without adhering to manufacturer?s guidelines, they are likely to harm you. It is also important to care for your teeth after whitening them which can be ignored or subdued by many people.

A quick Fix may not come Without Risk

Quick fixes are usually risky and health related risks can be too troubling to be undertaken. When whitening teeth, following the complete procedure and course is obligatory for minimizing the risks associated. If done in an unsupervised manner, teeth whitening can do more harm than good. Besides, patients who sign wavers declaring absence of tooth or gum illness may not be certain whether they actually do not have any disease of the kind.

Home kits and salon teeth whitening also pose risks. There is a possibility of insufficient whitening product, improper fitting mouth guard leading to leakage of bleaching gel, etc.? Additionally, the absence of dental supervision can make things worse and result into harmful consequences like blistering and sensitivity. Untrained beauty salon staffs are likely to cause oral health risks which may not appear too soon.
6 Risks Of Cosmetic Tooth Whitening, 5.0 out of 5 based on 1 rating
Source: https://www.ayushveda.com/magazine/6-risks-of-cosmetic-tooth-whitening/

goog Sylvia Kristel st louis cardinals Steelers Schedule tory burch Al Smith Dinner Herman Melville Books

Posted by doylevelva08 at 10:14 PM No comments:
Email This<a class='goog-inline-block share-button sb-blog' href='https://www.blogger.com/share-post.g?blogID=8215476756786603698&postID=8816553304908570225&target=blog' onclick='window.open(this.href, "_blank", "height=270,width=475"); He's our main weapon off the bench on offense, and usually finishes games for us. He gives us that added dimension of being an outside shooter, and he's been quite reliable so far this season (he's shooting 43.4 3pt%, which is second only to Paul Millsap 's astounding 58.8 3pt%). So far this season he is 3rd best in Offensive Win Shares. (Sap is first, Gordon Hayward is second). All that said, no one questioned his ability to hit spot up shots. He has been killed on defense. You may call it subjective, but he's been beaten down by Kobe Bryant types, all the way down to Danny Green types. Everyone scores on him. In fact, his defensive win shares are tied for worst on the team. The guys who have the same number of win shares on defense as him as Keven Murphy, Jeremy Evans, and Alec Burks. The main metric that seems to determine how much good you can do on offense and defense is playing time. Murphy, Evans, and Alec have played a grand total of 57 minutes this season. Randy? He has played 257 minutes.

Okay, so Randy isn't a great defender, so what else is new? I guess that's it. For the role of being a bomber off the bench who isn't good enough to start, he fits the role well (think Jason Terry / Jamaal Crawford). Those guys also set people up at times, or play 'some' defense. We haven't seen much from Foye besides shooting. He has played 257 minutes and has shot the ball 93 times. That means he shoots the ball every 2.76 minutes (2:46 in time units). As a point of comparison, Foye's one shot per 2.7 minutes of play is a stones throw away from Millsap's one shot per 2.6 minutes of play. Foye is shooting a lot.

I'm okay with that. I'm okay with his offense, and how he's a designated shooter. I'd love to see him add something else, like being a secondary distributor, or an average defender. Before he played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Randy played for the Washington Wizards. So this could be a revenge game. University of Notre Dame researcher Robert Nerenberg can tell you many things you might not know about wastewater treatment plants, including their significant carbon footprint, energy demands and chemical costs. His past research has addressed ways to drastically improve the energy efficiency of wastewater treatment. He now is telling the wastewater treatment industry about his promising new line of research that has the capability of significantly decreasing chemical costs and carbon footprint.

Nerenberg, an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering and earth sciences, points out that wastewater treatment plants are increasingly using a biologic nutrient removal (BNR) process to protect human health and the environment. This BNR process typically adds an external electron donor, or carbon source, such as methanol or ethanol. However, these chemicals are expensive, have toxicity and handling concerns, and can have a significant carbon footprint.

Nerenberg notes that gaseous electron donors have rarely been used in wastewater treatment because of their sparse solubility. However, a new biofilm reactor technology known as the membrane-biofilm reactor (MBfR) effectively delivers gaseous substances directly to the biofilm, bypassing the solubility problems. Hydrogen gas has been delivered to an MBfR to remove oxidized contaminants such as nitrate.

Nerenberg is studying the feasibility of using several inorganic or gaseous compounds, such as sulfur, sulfur dioxide, sulfite, hydrogen sulfite and methane, for delivery to MBfRs. Many of these compounds are waste products of other industries and can be much more cost effective and sustainable than the carbon compounds currently used in BNR processes. Elemental sulfur, for example, is a waste product from a number of industries, including oil refining and coal or gas-burning refining plants, and in many cases these industries would be happy to provide the sulfur for free to entities willing to remove it. The research thus also offers a means to transform a waste product into a valuable resource.

Nerenberg's research offers such promise that the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) Endowment for Innovation n Applied Water Quality Research awarded him its 2012 Paul L. Busch Award. The $100,000 award recognizes an outstanding individual whose ongoing efforts contribute significantly to water quality research and its practical application in the water environment.

The Busch Award Committee identified Nerenberg's work as feasible and able to demonstrate results and full-scale application quickly. Nerenberg will initially focus his research on sulfur and sulfur dioxide, which have the highest potential for immediate application. And he is already moving the research forward quickly with help from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District in Virginia, where preliminary denitrification tests have been conducted with sulfur and sulfur dioxide.

Nerenberg hopes the research will provide the basic information necessary to quickly develop treatment applications and help identify the most suitable reactor configurations, thereby dramatically decreasing operational costs and improving sustainability at wastewater treatment facilities.
